Although it’s only about 20 minutes drive out of Derby, I’d only recently heard of Dale Abbey after seeing a few small photos of it whilst browsing the internet. Me and my Sis had planned to head out somewhere but as the morning somehow escaped us, I thought it best to stick to somewhere nearby. I found details of a walk we could do around there, which was around 5 miles. Definitely do-able and would be back in time for tea…or in my case, to head out into town for drinks!

Making the most of the good weather, me and my friend Annie (Bernard for short) set off in the direction of the small village of Brassington. Oddly enough for us, we found it without any complication and parked up on one of the few side streets through the village. There were pats on the back all round when we discovered that we’d parked right around the corner from the start of the walk too! Bonus.

Tutbury Castle

I saw somewhere that Tutbury Castle was having a Summer Fete over this weekend so decided to drag my Mum, Sister & friend Annie (Bernard) out for a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon out. Got there to find the skies were covered in thick, dark grey cloud. Typical. And to top it all off, it treated us to some rain when we got out the car. Nice of it.

I can’t remember whether this was a planned visit or whether we just stumbled across it on our way to somewhere else. Either way we ended up here. We pulled up into the car park just as a family was leaving and the rain was starting. It’s quite an impressive sight as you arrive up the narrow lane to the hall which seems to pass through a little village within the grounds. The angry sky only heightened the effect. Could have done without the rain though.
Ashby Castle: Part 1

This was one of those trips where we just looked at the map and browsed around until we saw something that seemed worthy of a visit. Proved to be quite a successful technique as I didn’t even know Ashby had a castle! Result.

Seeing as I took so many photos here, I thought I’d spread them across 2 pages for you.
